GOOD MEMORIES OF LONG AGO
FORTY YEARS TO BE EXACT!
Forty Years ago today Feb 15, 1970
Gee, sounds like a long, long time ago... but it really wasn't and has went by to quickly!
No, I didn't get a diamond in a rosebud, or a box of candy or anything like that but , guess it's a great idea. I got mine even more originally than that!
Actually, I had went to school that day and Norman picked me up at school, saying that our moms both wanted us to go to the laundry mat and dry their clothes for them. And we actually did. But once I got in the car, he said I need us to make a stop before we go to the laundry mat... and we did! He took me to a little jewelry store (that has since closed) and not only did he have me pick out a diamond, but also both of us a wedding band !! Boy was I shocked!!!
Then he took me home and "was going to carry Mom's clothes to the front porch and just let me out..."Oh No!" I said, "You are going in with me!" and he did! ... The only thing my poor Mom could say is "Patty, you got that out of a bubble gum machine!" She said later she knew it was a real diamond, but just couldn't imagine us getting engaged so quickly!!! That wasn't the half of it, two months later, we got married! And NO, I wasn't pregnant! (but got that way shortly after our marriage, back then birth control was rather new) ... To top it all off, we had never even dated! We had knew each other for many years, 8 to be exact, and that is how much older he is than I am. But for us, it has and is still working JUST FINE! You know some people 're-new their vows at 10 or 25 years, why bother (was our answer, it's no need to fix something that isn't broken) and I am sure you've heard that saying before. ; }
~~~~We were married April 17, 1970.... ah, what a good day!~~~~
Now here we are forty years later, 3 grown sons, 2 lovely daughters-n-laws, 4 beautiful granddaughters, one handsome grandson. (and we lost five babies due to miscarriages, and a foster son.. due to something completely out of our control ... see blog for Feb 10) And we are still in love, and still going as strong (as possible) ha! Oh the joys of getting old ; } Going to church, going to the doctors, going to work, going to the grocery store (that we should stay away from, ha). going to see our Mothers (our dad's have both since passed on), going to see our grand-kids, and still going everywhere we go "together"! To us, that is the main thing "TOGETHER", still happy and still in love, THANKFULLY..."THANK YOU LORD!"
Norman has retired (even though he has worked a day here and there with the boys, or helped his brothers cut wood for his mom) I am still working until I too am of retirement age, (just waiting and working : } ... We live in our little home in the country, back off the main road... And we are looking forward to our second forty years "TOGETHER, and then ETERNITY TOGETHER! HAPPILY FOREVER!
He summed it up for me in a card yesterday, it reads:
My Dear Wife
I depend on you for so many things-
a word of encouragement, a listening ear.
The smile that keeps me going...
You're the most wonderful thing that's ever happened to me,
and I just wanted you to know
how thankful I am to be sharing life with you...
My wife, my love, my very best friend!
THIS IS FROM ME TO HIM... (SONG LYRICS)
Have I Told You Lately That I Love You~ Rod Stewart Have I told you lately that I love you Have I told you there's no one else above you Fill my heart with gladness, take away all my sadness Ease my troubles, that's what you do For the morning sun and all its glory Meets the day with hope and comfort too You fill my life with laughter, somehow you make it better Ease my troubles, that's what you do There's a love that's defined And it's yours and it's mine like the sun And at the end of the day We should give thanks and pray to the one, to the one Have I told you lately that I love you Have I told you there's no one else above you Fill my heart with gladness, take away all my sadness Ease my troubles, that's what you do There's a love that's defined And it's yours and it's mine like the sun And at the end of the day We should give thanks and pray to the one, to the one And have I told you lately that I love you Have I told you there's no one else above you You fill my heart with gladness, take away my sadness Ease my troubles, that's what you do Take away all my sadness, fill my life with gladness Ease my troubles, that's what you do Take away all my sadness, fill my life with gladness Ease my troubles, that's what you do
