THE WINTER WIND, and A COLD WINTER'S WIND... "The answer my friend, is blowin in the wind.....

HAS IT BEEN COLD AND WINDY ENOUGH FOR YOU TODAY? BRRRRR! THAT WIND BITES YOUR FACE AND ALL EXPOSED PARTS (hands, neck and such) COLD!

 "O thou whose face hath felt the Winter’s wind"

O thou whose face hath felt the Winter’s wind,

Whose eye has seen the snow-clouds hung in mist

And the black elm tops ’mong the freezing stars,

To thee the spring will be a harvest-time.

O thou, whose only book has been the light

Of supreme darkness which thou feddest on

Night after night when Phœbus was away,

To thee the Spring shall be a triple morn.

O fret not after knowledge—I have none,

And yet my song comes native with the warmth.

And he’s awake who thinks himself asleep.

As the new year begins, I present for you a poem by John Keats, inspired by a cold winter’s wind but encompassing so much more.

The image I’ve chosen to accompany the poem is a famous one by Casper David Friedrich called “The Wanderer Above the Mists”, painted around 1817. Obviously the artist is captivated by the misty mountains, but then why place a person in the very center of the image, blocking our view? And we can’t see his face, we can only wonder at who he is and what he is thinking. It’s this kind of mystery, along with the expert composition and technique, that make the painting great. There’s a bigger idea at work here, a puzzle that the viewer must unravel.

The poem is also open to interpretation, but I won’t even try to analyze it. I’ll let the poet speak for himself.

We thank You dear Lord, that we are healthy enough to be outside, even in the cold and wind and to be able to feel and know what is going on..That in itself is a blessing! (many cannot, and we pray for Your mercies on them.) Thank You for the sunshine, because it makes it all easier for many. Please bless each of those reading this and their families, spiritually, physically, emotionally, mentally, financially and with Your wonderful, Unconditional love, grace, mercies, forgiveness, guidance and Your Sweet Inner Peace. Please Lord be with all the little ones that has E.B. and all other diseases, touch them in Your special way, and please if it be Your will, send cures! Also Father, please be with everyone of all ages that has cancer, diabetes, lung problems, and all kinds of other illnesses. Touch them and help them to know Your love and comfort and peace, Heal all of them that You will please Lord. Please Lord, be with Norman Jr and Chris as they travel back and forth to and from work daily, (thank You for their jobs, please keep them safe) Bless Jeff with a good raise and NJ with benefits, for himself and his family. Thank You for all the soldiers, policemen, and all kinds of "service people", keep them safe and help them to be completely fair to all while doing their jobs.
