OUR ROLLER PIGEONS AND BIG CHICKENS

A Little Pigeon Poem

Why live with pigeons? There's danger you know,
Can't adopt just one, the craving will grow.
There's no doubt they're addictive, wherein lies the danger,
While living with lots, you'll grow poorer (and stranger?).
One pigeon is so funny, and two are no trouble,
The more, the merrier, they're all so delightful.
The third is a honey, the fourth one's a breeze,
You can live in a house full, with the greatest of ease.
So how 'bout another -- or two if you must? They're really quite easy, but oh Lord, the dust.
With pigeons on furniture, and pigeons in bed,
And their toys and things, "It's no bother," you've said.
So, invite some more pigeons, you can always find room,
And a little more time, for the dust cloth and broom.
There's hardly a limit, to the pigeons you add,
The thought of a cutback, sure makes you sad.
Each one is so special, so unique and so funny,
Food and care bills grow larger, you spend much more money.
Your folks never visit, few friends come to stay,
Except other bird folks, who live the same way.
Is it worth it you wonder? Are you caught in a trap?
Then your pigeon pals fly over, and into your lap.
Their coos say your special, and you know that you will,
Keep your feathered friends, in spite of the bill.

THIS IS THE LOFT (it's about 4 feet deep and maybe 5 feet long) WHERE THE FEEDER AND WATER CONTAINER IS FOR OUR ROLLER PIGEONS.. THEY HAVE A LARGE STRAW FILLED NEST BOX BIG ENOUGH FOR 6 OR 8 at least.  (by going up on the loft, and going into the box by turning to the left just the way we are looking at it) the tree branch is just in there for them, to have a little privacy and they seem to love them..

THIS IS ANOTHER TREE BRANCH WITH TWO OF THE PIGEONS SITTING ON IT.. (it's inside the cage)

here you can see the perch that he hung for them out of a real tree limb.. also the small tree in the back he put inside the pen for them to sit in.. you can see two perching here.. and the ones I painted on the wall of the chicken coop..(also you can see how sturdy he built the pen, and that it's made from a double wide carport)

see the pigeon in the back? and on the wall of the chicken coop we have  two OLD cast iron frying pans.. they are rusty inside, but I couldn't throw them away because we used to use them when we camped with my now deceased parents.. and I had ordered a tin picture of a little girl with the chickens .. the orange bucket is actually sitting on the nest boxes for the chickens..

here you can see two of the birds sitting there and sort of see that they do have plenty of space to fly around.. I DEARLY LOVE HEARING THEM COO!

this is on the other side of the pen.. another branch "just for the birds" and you can see two of the three of them that are sitting on it

again, this is the little tree near the back, and a bird sitting just to the right of it (as you are looking at it) and also the perch more to the front of the picture (that is nearly the middle of the pen length wise)

and this is something I thought you would get a kick out of maybe...
Boneless Chicken  by Ted L Glines
Ain't nothin better or finger-lickin than a southern-fried plate
of boneless chicken. Greasy-chin stuff, just cain't get enough
of that cotton-pickin boneless chicken. Ya see them cluckers
rollin through the wood, them boneless chickens don't run too good.
Easy to catch in all kind of weathers, gonna raise me a flock
that ain't got no feathers. Mix up the batter and add some spice,
dip in the chicken and fry it up nice. Round these parts it's understood
that my boneless chicken tastes mighty good. Pass the chicken, please!
                        ============================================
no, that isn't about our chickens.. we will eat their eggs.. but never the chickens.. I am NOT going to eat anything I loved, fed, and cared for... This picture is some of our 42 BIG CHICKENS.. actually, the picture doesn't do them justice.. they are MUCH BIGGER!! (tomorrow I'll post the bantams and the two precious guineas!) and below is a few pictures of their pen

This is the front of the pen.. we built them all this year.. actually we got the chickens as babies at Easter...
