My grandmother Mae, was half Cherokee Indian on her mothers side and half Monacan Indian on her fathers side.. Her mother , always told her of a cousin of hers named Kaesha. Kaesha means "vigilant". When Kaesha became of age, around 14 (she thought)  she married a young Indian Chief named "Jaden Longfeather" (Jaden: means God has heard) and the two of them had 2 sons and 2
daughters. Then an illness broke out in the village and Jaden Longfeather was one of the first of the adults to pass away, along with her youngest son named Jabari, (Jabari means fearless, brave) and many other tribe members of all ages.. mostly the older folks and the younger children or those that was already ill. When Jaden passed away, Kaesha and her three other children had to leave the village, it was his tribal village, not hers. So things changed and Kaesha went to work for some people that lived right near the village, they had always been nice to Jaden and she was offered a little tiny house to live in for her and her three children. Kaesha and her children helped with farming the land of these nice folks and doing other things to pay for the little house and tiny piece of land they was buying from this farm family. Back then, it was very unusual for this kind of thing to happen, but she knew that they had to have a place to live, and the house was warmer than a tepee, yet all of Jadens people was still close by for her children.
As her children grew up and began to move away, Kaesha worked very hard around her little house. She planted all kinds of wildflowers that she had gathered along the streams and where ever she could find them. Her very own Mother had always talked of wishing to plant beautiful flowers that grew naturally. She cooked and baked for the land owners, even though her house had long ago been paid for, and the family gave her a little money here and there and she appreciated it very much. She loved that family and liked helping them, especially since the lady of the house had many health issues. Kaesha's yard was colorful with the
wildflowers and she loved them very much, some may have not seen the beauty in wildflowers or called them weeds, but to her they were flowers of nature. Her house was always very clean but very scarce on furniture and other things on the inside, but it was home to her. She was offered to go live with one of her daughters, and she did visit.. but was anxious to get back to her little home. She was happy there, and planned to live out her days there, close to where she had lived with Jaden and the rest of their family and his tribe. And that she did........
