MEMORIES, OLD AND NEW: MEET MR O'ROURKE, AND TWO BOYS IN HIS CLASS

MEET MR O'ROURKE

This represents Mr O'Rourke an ole school teacher from long ago. Though he was older and all bent over, a small school in a little town couldn't keep a school teacher. The children were so rude and hard to handle that three teachers had left this one school year. Mr O'Rourke decided that if they would hire him, he would take the job. He applied and since no one else even wanted the job, he was to start immediately.

The older boys tried tacks in his chair, then glue, nasty remarks were said and written anonymously on the black board. But still he remained faithful.Then he told his class, there has to be rules! But, I will allow you to write the rules and the punishment. A girl spoke up and said, no putting girls pigtails in the ink well. Someone spoke up and said no picking on each other.. Then a big boy spoke from the back,by the name of Tom said, no stealing lunches "I don't like it when my lunch gets stolen" Ten rules from the children were given to Mr O'Rourke, and he posted them all on the blackboard. Then he let them suggest the punishment, and they wanted it to be 10 licks (from the teacher) onto the back (without a coat on) of the child that broke a rule. He agreed saying, "these are Your rules, and your suggested punishment, this will be carried out."

One day, Tom spoke up and said "someone has taken my lunch!" So they investigated and found out that a frail little boy named Timmy had taken the lunch. Mr O'Rourke called him to the front of the class and told him to take his BIG, HEAVY coat off, and take his punishment. Timmy said, please don't make me take this coat off.. it belongs to my big brother and it's warm.. But the rules were carried out. The class was surprised when he took his brother's big coat off and Timmy had on no shirt! The whole class was shocked at how small and frail Timmy was! Timmy put his head down and said, "my Daddy died some time ago, and we live with my poor Mother" she is washing my only shirt today, so I had to come with one. The teacher told him to bend over and take his punishment. But then Tom spoke up and said "that's okay, I don't need the lunch anyway" But the teacher said, "no, these are you rules and must be carried out" So Timmy bent over, Mr O'Rourke raised the switch and Tom spoke up. He said "look the rules says 10 licks must be passed, but it don't say WHO has to take them" And with that, he walked up, took off his jacket and leaned over little frail Timmy and told Mr O'Rourke to go ahead.. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.. by then the whole class was crying out loud, even Mr O'Rourke, with Timmy sobbing the hardest (knowing what Tom was doing for him)..

Isn't it true that we should all feel what Timmy felt at that moment. And we should never forget the beatings, and punishment that our King, our Lord and Master took in our behalf. He took the rude and nasty remarks, the hateful things that were said and done to Him, severe beatings, being spit upon, being kicked, and pushed, even a horrible death upon a cross to pay for (our sins) that he didn't commit, to save us from the sins that we simply cannot repay. What an awesome God we serve! I am soo thankful and will try to NEVER FORGET TO PRAISE HIM!

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for all of Your wonderful love. Thank You for Jesus and all the sacrifice that was made in our behalf, help us please to never forget. Father, thank You for forgiving and saving us, and making a way for us to be with You for eternity. Please Father help my sister BJ to feel Your loving, healing hands upon her body right now, and to know that she'll be fine. Also JW, and my Mother and Gene, grant them inner peace and dull their pains, if curing them is not in Your will. Always, Your will be done. (help us to remember that)

Thank You for my husband, our family, our extended families, our church families (both old and new) and our friends, neighbors and co-workers. Please bless each of us spiritually, physically,emotionally, mentally and financially, and help us to live completely for YOU, and in Your will for our lives, and in Your favor. Always Lord, we give You our love, respect, honor, praise and glory in Jesus holy name, amen.
